But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name. Acts 4:17
The most important question here is, why? Why must they stop these men from speaking any more about Jesus? They admitted that, what Peter and John were saying about Jesus was true. So it wasn’t because they were peddling dangerous false doctrine. No, they were afraid that the people would actually believe that Jesus was the Messiah. So instead of rejoicing in their salvation, they tried to stop the spread of the good news of salvation. Their actions certainly supported the old saying, “there are none so blind as those who will not see.” Today, as we enjoy being able to hear the good news of Jesus’ suffering and death as payment for our sins, and his resurrection to life, we are thankful that our Lord thwarted their efforts to silence the gospel ministry.
Prayer: Thank you Lord, for bold witnesses who continue to speak about the good news of salvation. We are confident that you will never allow your Word to be silenced. AMEN
